Real-world field experience the number one skill for estimators
A recent poll on LinkedIn found that half of all respondents believe Real-world Field Experience is the most important skill an estimator is required to have today, followed by Industry Knowledge (28%), Teamwork and Collaboration (15%) and Time Management (8%).
The result is particularly poignant in the context of today’s working landscape with many professions forced to work from home and unable to travel due to lockdowns and stay at home orders. The results suggest that estimators who have worked in the field will be better equipped to do their jobs from home than those who have not had the same level of training.
CEO of Benchmark Estimating Software Frank Prestipino said it highlights the importance of ensuring those new to the industry continue to get as much real-world experience as possible.
“Every business wants new graduates/employees to have years of experience when they start their careers, and we know this is not always possible. What this result shows us is that not only is real-world experience vital for any estimator, but that providing that training to the next generation of estimators is important – they will be the industries future after all. Benchmark Estimating Software offers training that reflects best practices giving new entrants a head start in the field,” Mr Prestipino commented.
“Adding to this, our solution – Benchmark Estimating Software – has been built by estimators, for estimators and it is easy for estimators with real-world field experience to learn and skill up on’’.
The result also reflected that while industry knowledge is important, it is these skills learned on the job that are critical and they can be transferred to any industry.
Benchmark Estimating Software can be used across multiple industries including Asphalt, Building and Construction, Civil, Facility Management, Local Government, Mining, Road Authorities and Utilities.
