A recent poll on LinkedIn found that half of all respondents believe real-world field experience is the most important skill an estimator is required to have today, followed by industry knowledge (28%), teamwork and collaboration (15%) and time management (8%).

The result is particularly poignant in the context of the current working landscape with many professions providing flexible working arrangements. The results suggest that estimators who have worked in the field will be better equipped to do their jobs from home than those who have not had the same level of training.

Furthermore, it highlights the importance of ensuring those new to the industry continue to get as much real-world experience as possible. While employing new graduates or employees with years of experience is not always possible, providing on the job training to the next generation is vital.

Our solutions are built by engineers for engineers and are easy for estimators with real-world field experience to learn and skill up on.

The result of the poll also reflected that while industry knowledge is important, it is skills learned on the job that are critical and they can be transferred to any industry.
