With Benchmark Estimating Software now being used by companies in over 20 countries and by large corporations with operations across multiple countries, it was imperative that we adopt a bespoke approach to assist these clients with successful integration and implementation of our software. The Colas Group is one of our many clients to take up this offer and is a prime example of our commitment to empowering clients to increase productivity and profitability.
As we reported earlier this year, Colas Group has adopted Benchmark Estimating Software across a number of their companies in Central Europe including Colas Rail based in France and Colas Belgium, Poland, Croatia, Slovenia and Hungary.
Steering in a Positive Direction
To facilitate and manage the ongoing relationship between Colas globally and Benchmark Estimating Software, a steering committee has been established which includes the Deputy CEO of Colas Rail, chairperson of the committee and representatives from Benchmark Estimating Software, Colas Central European Division, with attendees at the recent meeting from Colas Rail, SPEIG as well as Colas UK.
Following the steering committee meeting in Paris, training courses were presented for Colas Rail and Colas Belgium.
Both companies will be using all standard features of Benchmark, including Auto Allocate, calculations etc. but with differences specific to their industries and projects.
The training courses were developed in both English and French. A feature, which was facilitated by Malik Korti, our Benchmark Estimating Software Support Consultant, who is fluent in both French and English.
Colas Rail Training
Colas Rail is a major French rail company offering turnkey solutions in rail construction, which has implemented 20 Benchmark Estimating Software licences in France with additional licences in their other Eastern European countries.
In addition to using Benchmark Estimating Software standard features, Colas Rail also use a specific export/quote format for their main client. The advanced nature of our software will enable them to gain much greater consistency and security by having their quotes in the one database.
The first in a series of training courses for Colas Rail was conducted in Paris with senior estimators. Following this course, the training will be rolled out in a wider implementation, with an additional 5 courses commencing in January 2017. In total approximately 40 people will be trained.
Enguerran Gollot, Tender manager & Business Development, Colas Rail described the training experience.
“The first two days was a user course (with French database and manual), the third day was specific to Colas Rail’s needs,” Enguerran explained. “The attendees worked on a real sample project for Colas Rail’s main client – they created a client-specific quote format – so they could apply the learning to the method they would use for their client’s quote.”
Colas Belgium Training
Colas Belgium has different requirements to Colas Rail, operating in road construction and civil works across Belgium. The business operates 21 licences, using both the French and Dutch versions of Benchmark Estimating Software.
Colas Belgium will eventually use all features in Benchmark and is realising significant benefits from the recently-released V7.8. In particular, the use ‘Display of custom field’ function in the Project Browser to carry a particular Item Code of V7.8.
The Colas Belgium training was conducted in Brussels, with 8 people attending including junior estimators.
Training Reaps Rewards
The initial feedback from these bespoke training courses has been extremely positive from all participants. Colas Rail report a good start with their roll-out in France while estimators at Colas Belgium are off to a good start to achieving increased productivity and profitability with estimating in Benchmark.
With the success of this bespoke approach to assisting large organisations, Benchmark Estimating Software will be further expanding this service and any company interested in specialised training courses, is invited to contact us.
Colas is a member of the Bouygues group of companies.
