Here’s a handy formula if you’re using the Calculator at the Resource level of an Item. This type of formula can be used in an Item in the Item Library or in a Project.
One example of the application for this is for the common scenario where you may use different equipment depending on the size of a task – for example if you use a Bobcat for a task where the Item Quantity is under 200m2 and an Excavator for when the quantity is above this. Within your Item you can add 2 Resources, ‘Bobcat’ and ‘Excavator’.
- In the ‘Bobcat’ Resource, click on the Calculator icon and insert the formula:
(iq()<500) * iq() / 20 SQUARE METRES PER HOUR
- In the ‘Excavator’ Resource, click on the Calculator icon and insert the formula:
(iq()>499) * iq() / 50 SQUARE METRES PER HOUR
- When you enter a quantity less than 500 for the Item, Benchmark Estimating Software will automatically allocate a Bobcat to this Item. When you enter a quantity above 500 it will allocate the Excavator.
This is just one simple example where this type of “logic” can be applied. Similar logic can be used for many other applications.
